History
The Plymouth School of Navigation was founded in 1862, and after that it evolved into a Polytechnic Institute and University College. This institution was given university status in 1992 and was given the name Plymouth School of Maritime Studies. The university was chosen by the Royal Statistical Society in October 2008.
