Nene College was founded in 1924, and the University of Northampton became a university in 2005. Avenue, Park, St. George's, and Waterside are the four main campuses of the institution. International students have a choice of townhouses on the lower levels, each of which includes a landscaped courtyard, or apartments on the top floors (there are a total of five). The University offers cheap housing alternatives in off-campus Halls of Residence, while the majority of students will prefer to live on campus. All of the apartments for students in Northampton is fully furnished and all utilities are included; the tenant is only responsible for the TV licence.
The university's network is wired and wirelessly accessible in every guest room. Armed security guards, closed-circuit television, and the residential life team—which also provides students with counselling and other support services—combine to give the University round-the-clock on-campus protection.
