University of Sunderland: Scho

Overview

The inception of the University aimed to rectify the regional disparity in medical education opportunities in England while fostering accessibility to the medical profession. Established as one of only five new medical schools in the UK in 2018, the School of Medicine at Sunderland welcomed its inaugural class in September 2019. Originally founded in 1901 as Sunderland Technical College, the institution evolved into the University of Sunderland in 1992. It operates across four campuses, with two situated on the northeast coast of England in Sunderland, one in London focusing on business, tourism, and nursing degrees, and a newly established campus in Hong Kong.

The University of Sunderland has forged robust connections with various industries, particularly with top blue-chip firms. Many students engage in internships with these companies as part of their degree programs, with engineering and media fields benefiting from particularly strong ties. Assessors of the Teaching Excellence Framework lauded the university for its integration of professional practice and the substantial contributions made by industry partners to program content.

Each faculty prioritizes collaboration with business partners to tailor program content, undertake research projects, facilitate degree apprenticeships, provide guest lectures, and offer internship opportunities to students and graduates.
